I just remember a day when they first came out, some guy behind me in the checkout was gonna tell me all about the mercury issue and how they are worse for the environment, I asked where he read it and found out it was written by a for profit power company.

    d1incharge… I …
d1incharge… I support CFLs like I wrote above. All I did was point out that the mercury content is higher (which is a fact – similar report have been written in the UK). Overall however they are still ‘greener’. Nothing ’stupid’ about that info. I get the impression you are also NOT for the building of more coal fire power station (one of your other comments) which I also agree with.

The report done on mercury in cfls was written by one of americas biggest power companies. Keep on readin stupid.

hey stupid, hate to rain on your parade, but we are a municipal power company. PUBLIC to the lame person. So when my neighbor wastes power, my rates go up. Lets not forget that coal is not exaclty a clean form of energy production, so you might actually pollute less too. Hope this helps you to become a little less ignorant.

    I agree, screw the …
I agree, screw the greenies. in the UK we’ve been told that there will be national blackouts by 2016 if we do not start building new power stations. the government wants to build nuclear generators and/or wind farms, but the dumb Green brigade are trying to block them.

thanks to the green-idiots we’ll be living in the dark ages, with no power or electricity! They’re a bunch of idiots living in a fantasy world!

  • MustNotRead says:

    loldozer: that’s …
loldozer: that’s correct. CFLs are one of many ways to reduce energy consumption. but the funny thing is, once this new push to make consumers “aware of their energy consumption” is complete and we’re all using less – energy companies will simply hike up their prices to cover their loss of profits.

so essentially, we will be using less in the future – yet we will pay exactly the same as we do today (more than likely a LOT more)

fuck energy conservation! it’s a big scam. “going green”

    The earth has a …
The earth has a perfect balance, without our interference it does sustain itself. Its not really anything new, people have been saying this for years, so that to keep our water and air clean, to keep the trees standing. Its just now people care, and its marketable because we’re faced with an economical crisis, and global warming because of our selfishness.
for example, It takes 20 pounds of grain to make 1 pound of beef. We can completely solve the world food crisis if more people gave a shit

I fully support energy saving compact fluorescents, but beware, they are not all they seem They have a lot of mercury in them. Another solution is to blank out greenpeace (who really know very little in the grand scheme of things) and build loads of nuclear power stations!

I cannot recommend quality CFL lamps enough.

If you have a 12W bulb to replace a 60W incandescent bulb – and you buy an expensive one that lasts ~15,000 hours (like Osram brand) that single lamp will save you $200+ over the lamps service life, and will save the environment literally 1,000 lbs CO2 emissions.

    One bulb. Think about it.

    Here’s another HUGE …
Here’s another HUGE energy saver… If you have an electric drip coffee maker turn it off after the coffee is made and transfer the coffee to a hot pot. Coffee makers use 1,000 watts (yes..1KW) every hour they are on. Mine was on 4 hours/day 7 days a week for an astounding 120,000 watts (120 KW) a month until I realized how much power it was using.

Kilowatt meters. Everybody should have one.
If the Government or Local authority supplied one to school children and demonstrated how to safely use it. Children could then demontrate it to parents and show them how to save energy at home and save the planet.
Do you think that is a Bright Light of an idea ?
