With the whole world currently in the grip of an economic crisis, people should ensure they are doing everything they can to save money in these troubled times. The first port of call should always be the home, where a lot of savings can be made. Utility bills are often a source of dismay, even for efficient users. So how can you save money on burgeoning gas bills?

Comparing gas rates with different suppliers is a good bet as there are numerous different factors that can make your gas bills cheaper. By being with the wrong supplier, you could be spending far more money than you need to. Switching gas suppliers can actually save you hundreds of pounds just by securing a better rate for the gas that you use.

The world of gas is very competitive and there will be many suppliers vying for your cash. To get the best deals you need to look at several factors when comparing: where you live has an effect on your rates, as does your actual usage, payment method and tariff.

First of all, if at all possible you should pay your gas bills via direct debit. Companies tend to charge extra for non-direct debit payments, so paying with direct debit can make you an instant saving. You can also save money by managing your account solely online. Paying for you gas online attracts additional discounts and it is much easier to manage your account with instant access to the relevant information and the ability to provide your own meter readings.

If you are using a pre-payment meter then you should definitely think about switching to a different method – Ofgem has stated that by doing so, you can save almost £170. Not only can switching your gas supplier work out cheaper, you may find other benefits such as better customer service, which can make a real difference when you need to speak directly with your supplier.

You may think switching gas suppliers would be an arduous task but it really isn’t. Once you have chosen a new gas supplier, simply notify your current provider and then follow the instructions you get from your new gas company. Remember to clear any outstanding payments you may have with your current supplier. Within no time you should be happily receiving cheaper gas bills!

Smart meters have caused some controversy recently in America as customers of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) complained that rather than lowering their gas and electricity bills, the smart meters actually increased utility bills.

The whole point of smart meters is that they are supposed to make customers more energy efficient. The smart meters replace the old analogue energy monitors with a digital display that gives information in real time about how much gas and electricity is being used in the home.

The need for smart meters arises out of a need to modernise and replace an ineffective technology which is a surviving relic of a past era. Old energy meters require regular checks and maintenance from members of the energy companies. The new smart meters will make the current meters defunct.

The real benefit of smart meters though is that customers can use them to monitor their energy consumption and then adapt their practices to reduce their energy bills. The problem with PG&E customers is that their bills were rising despite the implementation of smart meters.

One of the limitations of smart meters is that they are not magic wands, they cannot control electricity prices nor can they make energy cheaper on their own. PG&E said that rising gas and electricity bills had nothing to do with the smart meters but were caused by higher energy prices as a result of a rate hike in March.

A lack of communication on behalf of the company led to confusion and a resultant lack of trust in the smart meters from customers. Company officials from PG&E said: “We should have done a much better job in explaining to customers that this rate increase is taking place when you get into these summer months and start using more energy that could have a dramatic impact on your bills.”

Smart meters are not the issue, rising energy prices are the problem. What was not mentioned by PG&E was that without smart meters, customers’ energy bills would almost certainly have been even higher. The best way to combat increasing electricity prices is to start using technology like smart meters to help make savings wherever possible.

Financial problems happen to the best of us. You may be living paycheck to paycheck, just getting by when all of a sudden a catastrophe occurs.

It can be anything from an unexpected doctor’s visit, a need to fill an important prescription, a broken furnace or a higher than normal utility bill. What do you do when you need money today, and don’t have it? Turn to an online payday loan lender to help you out with those unexpected bills.

Héctor Milla Editor of the “Best Payday Loan Lenders” website — http://www.BestPaydayLoanLenders.com — pointed out;

“…A payday loan is great for bills that need to be paid because more often than not, the fee for being late on the bill is more than the fee for the loan. This is especially true on a credit card bill that needs paid right away. If you miss your payment, not only will you be charged a hefty fee, you will also be reported to the credit companies as a risk, and your score will certainly be lowered. Instead, avoid the hassle by applying online right away for a loan from a payday lender. You will also have the added advantage of being able to use your credit card right away, especially if you had previously reached your limit…”

A cash advance is perfect when your family needs something right away. They are great for those times where you need more groceries than you may have budgeted for, or you run out of diapers and formula for the baby. Your teenager may have run up the cell phone bill to much more than you expected, and you have to pay it right away. You may have a family crisis, such as a death, or an illness in a long-distance relative that you need to get to. A payday loan can help pay for an unexpected plane ticket or bus fare. Whatever the reason, you can get the cash you need today.

“…Don’t borrow money from friends or family who may give you a hard time about it. Instead, apply online any time of the day or night for a payday advance. When your next payday comes along, your loan will be directly withdrawn from your checking account. Take advantage of these easy, no hassle loans and pay those unexpected bills that have a habit of popping up at the worst times! Save yourself the worry of not having any cash and apply today from the comfort of your own home…” H. Milla added.
